The Department of Agricultural, Food, and Nutritional Science provides thesis-based programs for Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees, along with course-based options for Master of Agriculture and Master of Science degrees. Research facilities at the Edmonton Research Station feature specialized centers including: Crops and Land Resources, Alberta Poultry Research Centre, Swine Research and Technology Centre, Dairy Research and Technology Centre, Composting and Feedmill Facilities, the Laird McElroy Metabolism and Environmental Research Centre, and Agri-Food Discovery Place. Nearby research stations include the Ministik Wildlife Field Station and Kinsella Research Ranch, which focus on beef cattle studies.
On North Campus, the Department houses advanced laboratories with greenhouses, plant growth facilities, a Human Nutrition Research Unit, an Agri-Food Materials Science Lab, an Agriculture Genomics and Proteomics lab, a Food Microbiology lab, and comprehensive sensory and consumer science resources.
The duration for completing the course-based MSc varies; typically finished in two years. Full-time students can complete specialized MSc programs within 12 months, while part-time students generally take up to three years. Those aiming to finish in one academic year should enroll in four 3-unit courses per semester during fall and winter terms.
