The Music Department offers a Master of Music (M.Mus.) degree with three specialized tracks: Choral Conducting, Composition, and Performance. The Performance specialization covers piano, vocal, string, and various other instruments, along with options in piano instruction and wind ensemble direction. These three M.Mus. programs emphasize hands-on training in musical performance, conducting, or composition, enabling students to deeply explore their chosen focus area. Ideal candidates will be accomplished performers or composers with proven excellence in their disciplines. The department provides graduate programs culminating in Master of Arts, Master of Music, Doctor of Music, and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. The MA and PhD programs encompass Musicology, Music Theory, Ethnomusicology, Popular Music, and cross-disciplinary music research. The MMus curriculum features concentrations in Performance (covering keyboard instruments, piano teaching, orchestral instruments, wind ensemble direction, and voice), Choral Conducting, and Composition. The DMus program is available for piano and organ performance, choral conducting, and composition, with potential consideration for other performance specialties on a case-by-case basis.
