Our performance program combines practical training with experiential learning in a team-oriented setting. It also provides access to professional music careers and serves as an academic bridge for advanced research at the DMA/PhD level.
The Conducting program specifically aims to give conductors deeper professional development through progressive, innovative learning experiences that benefit students, educators, and communities alike.
Courses focus on enhancing expertise and hands-on abilities in conducting methods, repertoire selection, rehearsal techniques, leadership, communication, and student engagement through individual lessons and ensemble work.
Program Outcomes
Participants in this program will:
showcase refined conducting techniques and rehearsal methods using strong communication to lead instrumental and vocal groups
evaluate and interpret musical scores for practical application, demonstrating comprehensive repertoire knowledge
explore conducting styles and musical interpretation through private lessons, ensemble direction, and academic research
implement sophisticated musical understanding and artistic interpretation developed through research and real-world practice
employ expert-level listening and analytical skills in performance settings
thoughtfully process and incorporate feedback at an advanced level

Qualification Requirements

Some programs have audition requirements.
Applicants are generally expected to have a BMus or BA in Music.
Applicants should have at least a B+ (or 6/9) average during the last two years of undergraduate study, all students must meet the University minimum academic requirements.
Most of our degrees require two years of resident study, a final project/recital, and an oral examination (see our detailed course requirements).
English Language Proficiency Requirement: minimum IELTS 6.5 (no sub score below 6.0) / TOEFL minimum 90 (no section less than 20) or equivalent
