Interacting with stakeholders, community members, or special interest groups plays a vital role in numerous professions. Whether employed in government, corporate, nonprofit, or academic settings, developing skills to cultivate and assess meaningful engagement initiatives is crucial. Community engagement refers to the process where organizations and local groups exchange knowledge, offer specialized skills, and cooperate to tackle urgent challenges while creating shared benefits. However, successful community engagement requires intentional effort. The Master of Arts in Community Engagement (MACE) is a multidisciplinary graduate program designed to equip students with theoretical knowledge and practical skills for community engagement across diverse environments. MACE offers both thesis and course-based completion options, accommodating both full-time and part-time learners.

Qualification Requirements

The Faculty's minimum admission requirements are an undergraduate degree in a relevant field with an admission GPA of at least 3.0 on the 4-point scale from the University of Alberta, or an equivalent qualification and standing from a recognized institution. The admission GPA will be calculated on the last 60 units of graded coursework completed, or on the equivalent of the last two years of full-time graded coursework. Applicants are also required to submit the following:

CV or resum.
One sample of academic writing from thesis route applicants.
Three letters of reference (at least one from an academic referee).
A letter of intent which (a) specifies how the completion of this program would support professional and personal goals, (b) identifies a provisional research topic, and (c) explains how the applicant's interests align with research being done by faculty members in the School of Public Health.

Four-year undergraduate degree or equivalent from a recognized university
Grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0 (or equivalent) on a 4-point scale
Where applicable, demonstrated English language proficiency
TOEFL: minimum score of 100 with a score of at least 21 on each of the individual skill areas (internet-based), or equivalent,
An equivalent score on an English Language Proficiency test approved by the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research.
IELTS - 6.5, with at least 6.0 on each test band. Canadian Academic English Language Assessment - Overall 70 with at least 60 on each subtest.
