Our Department's PhD program involves completing 18 credit hours (6 courses) chosen collaboratively between students and their advisors, along with two mandatory courses (Ling 693-Generals Papers I and Ling 694-Generals Papers II). After coursework, students develop a dissertation proposal and take an oral qualifying exam. The final stages include researching, writing, and defending the doctoral thesis. The program is designed for completion in four years: coursework in year one, qualifying exams in years two and three, and dissertation work in year four. The Linguistics Department provides both Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy graduate programs.
