BioInformatics utilizes computational science methods to address challenges in biology and medicine. It employs approaches from machine learning, data analysis, artificial intelligence, optimization, visualization, and modeling while creating novel methodologies when needed. The team focuses on diverse genomics and proteomics projects, developing core algorithms for: predicting 3-D molecular structures, analyzing NMR spectra, multiple sequence alignment, plus creating web-based solutions for automated large-scale sequence analysis.

Our program provides educational courses and research projects across multiple fields such as Artificial Intelligence, Database Management, Game Development, Machine Learning, Robotics, Software Development, Human-Computer Interfaces, Bioinformatics, Network Communications, Algorithm Design, Graphic Computing, Visual Computing, System Software, Interactive Technology, Network Infrastructure, and Digital Media.

Qualification Requirements

Applicants for the Ph.D. in Computing Science must have an M.Sc. degree in Computing Science or a related field. Deficiencies must be addressed by taking appropriate undergraduate courses. A 3.0 GPA is typically the minimum GPA for acceptance in an MSc or PhD program. However, we may consider slightly lower GPAs in exceptional circumstances or due to small discrepancies in international GPA conversion rates. Meeting the 3.0 GPA minimum requirement does not guarantee admission. Our department admissions process is highly competitive and the Admissions Committee often selects students with a 3.5 GPA or higher. Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL iBT, in-person or special at-home edition) - A minimum TOEFL score of 100 with a minimum score of 21 on each of the individual skill areas (internet-based), or equivalent. Academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS - Academic) - A minimum overall band score of 7.0 with a minimum score of 6.5 on each band.
