This program examines how organisms interact with their surroundings, biological diversity, adaptive traits, and the processes driving evolution. You'll develop core expertise in plant, animal, and microbial ecology and evolutionary biology, examining subjects ranging from individual organisms to entire ecosystems across different spatial and temporal dimensions. The Honors Bachelor of Science provides specialized education in a chosen discipline for students interested in scientific investigation. Each program includes a mandatory research thesis component and requires higher academic performance than a standard BSc Major. While students may complement their studies with a minor from Arts, Native Studies, Business, or Agricultural, Life & Environmental Sciences, this will limit elective course options. The Honors program does not permit double majors.

The University of Alberta's Faculty of Science offers rigorous academic programs that uncover the scientific principles behind everyday phenomena. With 65 degree options across 30 disciplines, we rank among Canada's most comprehensive science faculties, featuring cutting-edge educational resources, undergraduate research opportunities, and faculty members who are prominent researchers in their respective fields.
