Fleming's Ecosystem Management Technician program emphasizes a comprehensive strategy for balancing human activities with ecological preservation. This program equips you for a dynamic career path that offers opportunities in local communities, remote wilderness areas, or international settings. By thoughtfully addressing both societal needs and environmental concerns, you'll assist governments, conservation agencies, and wildlife organizations in developing sustainable future plans.
Throughout the program, you'll examine ecosystem components, organization, and processes across various landscapes, gaining diverse technical competencies and the adaptability to meet evolving workplace demands. Additionally, you will: master research methodology fundamentals and their practical application to independent projects, engage in aquatic and terrestrial habitat evaluation, perform environmental surveys and resource assessments, create management strategies for different land types, collaborate with various groups on field studies and interpret collected data, and utilize Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for multi-scale ecosystem analysis.
This program includes an essential two-week (80-hour) field placement, giving students hands-on experience to showcase their skills and gain sought-after professional exposure.
Students also have access to three specialized international placements: two in South Africa and one in Costa Rica, offering worldwide conservation insights. Participation in these global experiences requires successful completion of a competitive selection process.
