Social Studies is available as either a major or minor within the Bachelor of Secondary Education program. Specialization options encompass Canadian Studies, World Studies, Cultural Studies, and General Social Studies (covering disciplines such as Anthropology, Christian Theology, Classics, History, Human Geography and Planning, Native Studies, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, Religious Studies, and Sociology).

Teaching represents a vocational commitment, and we're devoted to shaping you into the inspirational classroom educator your pupils will cherish forever. Our Faculty of Education's Secondary Education program equips you to share your enthusiasm for knowledge and exploration across nearly any subject with grades 7-12 students. You'll select two focus areas—a primary and secondary specialization—enabling you to follow your interests and tailor your educational journey.

The Secondary Education curriculum features a five-week Introductory Professional Term (IPT) followed by a nine-week Advanced Professional Term (APT). Typically, you'll instruct in your primary specialization during both terms. While designed as a four-year program, this degree can also be pursued as a post-degree qualification. Graduates receive recommendation for Alberta teacher certification upon successful completion.
