Our program provides training in multiple widely-spoken languages that students can choose as a primary or secondary focus within their Bachelor of Secondary Education degree. Each language specialization focuses not just on developing fundamental communication abilities, but also fosters cultural awareness and historical context. Teaching represents a profound vocation, and we're committed to shaping educators who will leave a lasting impact on their students. Through our Faculty of Education's Secondary Education curriculum, you'll gain the skills to inspire curiosity and knowledge across various subjects for middle and high school learners (grades 7-12). The program lets you select two concentration areas - a primary and secondary focus - enabling you to tailor your educational journey to your interests.
The Secondary Education curriculum features two practical teaching components: a five-week Introductory Professional Term (IPT) followed by a more intensive nine-week Advanced Professional Term (APT). Students generally instruct in their primary specialization during both terms. While typically structured as a four-year course, this program also accommodates those pursuing it as a post-degree option. Graduates will qualify for Alberta teaching certification upon successful completion.
