Students can pursue ELA as either a major or minor within the Bachelor of Secondary Education program. The curriculum covers diverse disciplines such as English Literature, Comparative Literature, Linguistics, Writing Studies, Drama, and Film & Media. Teaching represents more than just a profession—it's a vocation, and we're committed to shaping educators who will leave a lasting impact on their students. Through our Faculty of Education's Secondary Education program, you'll gain the skills to inspire grades 7-12 learners across various subjects. The program lets you select dual specializations (a major and minor), enabling you to tailor your academic journey to your interests.

This Secondary Education program features two practical teaching components: a five-week Introductory Professional Term (IPT) and a nine-week Advanced Professional Term (APT). Students generally instruct in their major subject area during both terms. While designed as a four-year undergraduate program, it's also available as an after-degree option. Graduates become eligible for Alberta teacher certification upon successful completion.
