The Wind Band Music program offers both major and minor options within the Bachelor of Secondary Education. Students will explore various disciplines such as Instrumental Ensemble, Aural and Keyboard Skills, Music Theory, Woodwind Techniques, Brass Techniques, Percussion Techniques, Choral Techniques and Pedagogy, Band Techniques, and Conducting. This major is also available as part of a combined Bachelor of Music/Bachelor of Education degree.
Designed for individuals with prior university education, this after-degree program's duration depends on transferable credits from previous studies. Students can complete the after-degree at the University of Alberta or through our Collaborative Off-Campus Program at partner institutions.
Teaching represents a profound vocation, and we're committed to shaping educators who will leave lasting impressions on their students. Our Secondary Education program in the Faculty of Education equips future teachers to inspire grades 7-12 learners across various subjects. The program features dual specialization with a major and minor, enabling personalized academic paths. It incorporates a five-week Introductory Professional Term (IPT) and nine-week Advanced Professional Term (APT), with teaching typically focused on the major subject area. While normally structured as a four-year program, it's also available as an after-degree. Graduates qualify for Alberta teacher certification upon completion.

Qualification Requirements

A three- or four-year degree from an accredited postsecondary institution
An Admission GPA (AGPA) of at least 2.0, or equivalent, based on the most recent graded and transferable ‚òÖ24. The length of the program will depend on the courses that a student presents at the time of admission. The Secondary After Degree program length will depend on the courses presented at the time of admission.
Mathematics 30-1 and Mathematics 30-2 are not necessary for admission to the Faculty of Education After Degree although Mathematics 30-1 may be a prerequisites for some required courses.
Submission of the Casper test is required to be evaluated for Admission to the program.
