Students can select from multiple Career and Technology Studies disciplines as either a primary or secondary focus within their Bachelor of Secondary Education. Please be aware that combining a primary and secondary focus in CTS is not permitted. Options for CTS concentrations include Business, Administration, Finance; Computing Science; Health; Recreation; Human Sciences; Media; Design; Communication Arts; Natural Resources; and Trades, Manufacturing and Transportation.
This pathway caters to individuals who have already completed an undergraduate degree. The duration of the after-degree program depends on the number of transferable credits from prior university studies. Students may complete this after-degree at the University of Alberta or through our Collaborative Off-Campus Program at partner institutions.
Educating is a vocation, and we're committed to shaping you into the classroom leader who will leave a lasting impact on your pupils. Our Faculty of Education's Secondary Education program equips you to share your enthusiasm for knowledge across nearly any subject with junior and senior high students. You'll select two specialization areas—a primary and secondary focus—to tailor your academic journey according to your interests. The program features a five-week Introductory Professional Term (IPT) followed by a nine-week Advanced Professional Term (APT), with instruction typically occurring in your primary specialization during both terms. While normally structured as a four-year program, this degree can also be pursued as an after-degree option.
A three- or four-year degree from an accredited postsecondary institution
An Admission GPA (AGPA) of at least 2.0, or equivalent, based on the most recent graded and transferable ‚òÖ24. The length of the program will depend on the courses that a student presents at the time of admission. The Secondary After Degree program length will depend on the courses presented at the time of admission.
Mathematics 30-1 and Mathematics 30-2 are not necessary for admission to the Faculty of Education After Degree although Mathematics 30-1 may be a prerequisites for some required courses.
Submission of the Casper test is required to be evaluated for Admission to the program.
