The retail and service sector forms the core of today's consumer-driven economy. This curriculum covers essential topics including shopper psychology and purchasing choices, pricing strategies, retail procurement procedures, customer service excellence, product display techniques, inventory organization, and property management for commercial spaces. Industry leaders frequently visit campus to engage with students and deliver guest lectures. Retail majors and minors can also secure compensated summer internships with affiliated companies, working on supervised academic projects.

Alumni from the Retailing and Services program pursue diverse careers across multiple retail segments, from apparel to supermarkets, holding positions in procurement, logistics, marketing, and business advisory roles. Qualification Requirements

English is the primary language of instruction in all Faculties except Facult Saint-Jean. All undergraduate applicants to any program or course except Facult Saint-Jean need an adequate level of English language proficiency before admission, regardless of their citizenship status or country of origin. The University of Alberta reserves the right to use discretion in determining adequate levels of language proficiency to ensure success in academic programs.
Graduation from a recognized degree program offered by an accredited university at which English is the primary language of instruction or in a country where English is the primary language.
A score of at least 90 on the TOEFL iBT (Test of English as a Foreign Language - Internet-based) with no less than 21 on each band.
A score of at least 6.5 on the IELTS Academic (International English Language Testing System) with no band less than 6.0.
A score of at least 70 on the Canadian Academic English Language assessment: CAEL (paper) or CAEL CE (computer) with no band less than 60.
