Canada's inaugural Indigenous Studies Ph.D. program uniquely integrates the holistic aspects of Indigenous Knowledges - encompassing physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual dimensions - ensuring their proper articulation, examination, preservation, acknowledgment, and reverence within the broader academic discipline of Indigenous Knowledges: Peoples, Lands, Cultures.
The program places Indigenous Peoples, especially Elders and Knowledge Keepers, at its core. It offers three distinctive elements: an intensive year-long land-based Indigenous Knowledge course; a 90-day practical placement within an Indigenous community or organization; and the BimaadiziwinAtonhetseri:io - a remarkable second-year apprenticeship opportunity with an Elder or Knowledge Keeper.
