Trent University's pioneering Indigenous Environmental Studies and Science (IESS) program, delivered in partnership with the School of the Environment, stands as North America's inaugural initiative of this nature. This unique degree explores the intersection and cooperation between Indigenous Knowledge Systems and Western academic frameworks, presenting students with two academic tracks. Opt for the Bachelor of Arts (Studies) to explore environmental relationships through cultural, social, and humanistic lenses from Indigenous viewpoints. Alternatively, select the Bachelor of Science (Sciences) path to develop analytical competencies for examining the natural world through both Indigenous and Western scientific paradigms. Under the mentorship of distinguished Indigenous and non-Indigenous professors, Elders, visiting experts, and researchers, you'll cultivate critical, imaginative, and solution-oriented approaches to tackle global challenges like climate change, sustainable development, public health, food systems, and other pressing concerns impacting Indigenous communities and populations worldwide.
