The Bachelor of Education (Elementary) is a two-year degree program blending classroom instruction with hands-on teaching practice in elementary school environments.
Upon completion, graduates can enter elementary teaching professions and, with additional qualifications, may teach at secondary levels. This program grants a professional teaching certification from the BC Teacher Certification Branch, enabling graduates to teach across various elementary settings including public, private, independent, religious, and First Nations schools.
Key learning outcomes include:
Developing communication skills for interacting with students, parents, and educational professionals.
Mastering conflict resolution and social skill instruction through interactive methods like role-play and group discussions.
Adapting teaching methods for students at varying developmental stages and from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Examining the historical and contemporary relationship between educational institutions and society.
Making informed curriculum choices to create impactful language and literacy programs.
Gaining foundational knowledge in teaching core subjects like mathematics, science, physical education, and social studies at elementary levels.
Applying theoretical knowledge through practical experience. The program includes four practicum placements where students implement their learning in real classroom settings.
