The Bachelor of Education - Elementary is a four-year undergraduate program designed to qualify graduates for Alberta Education certification. This integrated program combines academic coursework with hands-on experience, strategically structuring classes to enhance connections between subjects. The curriculum offers education students a comprehensive approach to mastering teaching methods, learning processes, and evaluation techniques. Students complete three specialized semesters (Winter term in year 2, Fall term in year 3, and Winter term in year 4) where they take coordinated courses to better blend classroom learning with practical field experience. Graduates develop a dynamic teaching philosophy through ongoing research, discussion, and critical examination of educational systems. The program includes both mandatory and optional courses that incorporate real-world classroom exposure, along with two practicum placements in the final years. Students must select a minor from the approved options. Annually, the program addresses the need for more Indigenous educators by allocating dedicated spots for Indigenous applicants through a special admissions initiative.
