For nearly 100 years, exceptional healthcare education has flourished at the Elizabeth and Thomas Rankin School of Nursing at StFX University, building upon the groundbreaking legacy of the Sisters of Saint Martha. Today, it stands among Canada's premier nursing programs, renowned for producing graduates who demonstrate exceptional compassion, clinical expertise, and professional dedication.

Nursing professionals play a vital role in healthcare delivery across all levels - from individual patient care to global public health initiatives. While the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted nurses' indispensable contributions, their impact has been transformative for generations. With persistent nursing shortages across Canada and worldwide, the need for qualified nurses remains urgent and will continue for years to come.

Our innovative nursing curriculum develops skilled, safety-conscious practitioners who integrate evidence-based practice with critical thinking. Students emerge prepared to champion health equity, cultural safety, and social justice while acquiring the essential competencies for diverse clinical environments. The program provides the academic foundation for RN licensure examinations within StFX's distinctive, community-oriented learning environment that prioritizes teaching excellence.

The Rankin School of Nursing delivers a traditional four-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing program for high school graduates, commencing each September. This eight-semester sequence spans four academic years without summer terms, culminating in May graduation. Qualified students may pursue the Honours BScN option within the standard four-year framework.
