Our two-year Bachelor of Education program blends teaching, research, and service in a dynamic learning setting. You'll be guided by faculty members who are distinguished educators themselves. During their second year, B.Ed. candidates gain valuable international teaching experience through overseas placements. Previous students have completed practicums in diverse locations such as Norway, Australia, Kenya, Iceland, and Scotland. The StFX Faculty of Education is committed to shaping future educators by merging academic knowledge with practical application, ensuring graduates are classroom-ready. We prepare students for their careers through a comprehensive curriculum featuring core requirements and numerous specialized elective options.
The BEd program spans two years after obtaining an undergraduate degree. It offers two specialization tracks:
Elementary (primary to grade 6) – Candidates in elementary education train to instruct across multiple subject areas, reflecting the curriculum structure of Nova Scotia's public elementary schools.
Secondary (grades 7 to 12) – Secondary education candidates qualify to teach at least two subjects commonly offered in Nova Scotia's public high schools (including English, French, Social Studies, Mathematics, Science, Physical Education/Health Education, Gaelic, Spanish, Business, Family Studies, Art, Music, and Drama).
Both tracks offer specialized programs in Physical Education and French instruction.
