At StFX, sociology students stand out for their high level of engagement, a trait frequently credited to faculty members who equip them with critical thinking skills to tackle challenging issues, make socially conscious decisions, and actively participate in creating change.
The program offers diverse perspectives and specialized knowledge across multiple disciplines, covering topics like environmental studies, social justice movements, systemic inequalities, race theory, personal identity, media analysis, rural communities, criminal justice, disability research, social norms, diversity studies, and gender identity.
Sociology students can choose from several academic pathways, including:
Bachelor's Degree in Sociology
Combined Major in Sociology
Advanced Honors in Sociology
Honors in Sociology with Secondary Concentration
Applicants must have English and four university preparatory courses in grade 12.
Students with an IELTS score of 6.5 and no band below 6.0 will be deemed to have satisfied the English language requirements for admissions to undergraduate programs. Other acceptable tests include: MELAB (minimum score required is 90), TOEFL iBT (minimum score required is 90 and no lower than 20 in each band), CAEL (minimum score required is 71), CAE (minimum score required is 180 overall and no lower than 170 in each band.
