As a Human Kinetics student at StFX, you'll embark on a comprehensive four-year journey exploring the human body and its complex relationship with movement. Our curriculum blends academic coursework with hands-on learning and community partnerships, producing graduates who are versatile and ready for advanced studies or careers in movement sciences.
Upon completing the program, you'll be equipped to immediately join the workforce or pursue professional graduate studies. StFX's strong community connections have built our reputation among employers, frequently leading to employment opportunities after graduation.
The Human Kinetics program offers multiple pathways for specialization. Students can approach the discipline through either Arts or Science perspectives, with several degree options available. In your second year, you may choose to focus on one of these concentrations:
Kinesiology: A broad track suitable for (though not restricted to) careers in physiotherapy, rehabilitation, athletic training, or advanced studies in Human Kinetics.
Pre-Education: Allows students to develop teaching specialties, including physical education.
Health Sciences: Prepares students for medical, dental, or optometry programs.
Human Nutrition: Students minoring in this area can complete an additional degree with a fifth year of study.
The arts-focused approach to human movement opens doors to careers in fitness, sports media, or coaching, as well as graduate studies in education, sport psychology, or related social science fields. During their second year, students can declare a major in kinesiology, pre-education, or pursue an advanced major.
