The Kinesiology program focuses on the scientific examination of human motion to enhance wellness and avoid disease and harm. This curriculum offers core knowledge in anatomy, biomechanics, physiology, nutrition, and neuroscience, supplemented by biology, chemistry, and physics classes from the Science department. Emphasizing hands-on learning, skills are honed through diverse lab sessions, specialized facilities, practical assignments, and advanced practicums covering sports injury evaluation, cardiac recovery, and movement analysis. As part of one of North America's most extensive kinesiology departments, students can select specialized electives and develop expertise in fields like gait studies, high-altitude and aviation physiology, motor skill development, or spinal conditions. Assist an aspiring Olympian in recovering from ligament damage. Reduce occupational hazards by refining workplace ergonomics. Improve daily living for children with cerebral palsy. Master techniques to prevent and address movement-related health issues – with the co-op option providing 20 months of paid professional experience. Beyond standard science coursework in biomechanics, neuroscience, and physiology, you can select from four kinesiology-focused minors or numerous university-wide minor options. The program also includes preparatory courses for healthcare careers like medicine and physical therapy.
