At StFX Modern Languages, students have the opportunity to study French, Spanish, German, or Mi'kmaq through courses that explore the connection between language and culture. The department provides instruction in language skills, cultural studies, writing techniques, and literary works spanning various historical periods. All faculty members hold doctoral degrees and teach in small class settings, creating an ideal personalized atmosphere for language acquisition. Through the unique Service Learning program, students can apply their classroom learning in real-world community and international settings.
Students can earn a French proficiency certificate to formally document their language skills on their academic record. Given French's status as an official Canadian language, bilingualism can enhance career prospects after completing studies.
