The School for the Contemporary Arts provides a Dance program focused on contemporary dance education, creation, and performance, distinguished by its interdisciplinary and intercultural approach designed for today's innovative dance artists. We seek students eager to investigate diverse creative methods in contemporary movement and choreography while enhancing their adaptability to redefine the modern dance landscape.
Our program welcomes individuals with backgrounds in traditional 'classical,' 'modern,' or 'contemporary' dance training, as well as those with unconventional movement practices. Studio classes incorporate theoretical frameworks using varied techniques, blending them with composition, improvisation, collaboration, and performance studies. Similarly, our lecture courses not only explore historical and aesthetic contexts through practice-as-research but also empower students to critically examine these frameworks using insights from their cultural and personal experiences. Collaboration is central to our curriculum, and we actively promote interdisciplinary projects with other SCA departments—Film, Music & Sound, Theatre Performance, Theatre Production & Design, Visual Art, and Art, Performance & Cinema Studies—to foster groundbreaking cross-disciplinary work.
