The joint major program provides an understanding of both historical and modern Indigenous cultures across British Columbia and North America, while exploring Aboriginal viewpoints on current affairs. This includes examining Indigenous matters in archaeology, cultural preservation, natural resource governance, government interactions, and territorial rights. Participants in the joint major will develop knowledge of Indigenous traditions in these regions and study native perspectives on modern society, covering topics like archaeological practices, heritage conservation, resource administration, political engagements, and land rights. The curriculum focuses on material culture research, analytical methods for studying past civilizations, traditional and contemporary artistic expressions, preserving archaeological and museum artifacts, and managing public displays of Indigenous cultural heritage. Program planning should be done in coordination with advisors from both Indigenous Studies and Archaeology departments.
