The one-year Personal Support Worker (PSW) program at Sault College equips students with essential caregiving skills for assisting elderly individuals, those with chronic illnesses, and people facing mobility limitations in various environments. Students develop expertise in enhancing clients' physical, mental, and social health across diverse settings including: Long-term care institutions, Medical centers, Private care organizations, Retirement communities, Home healthcare environments, Educational systems (for children with special needs), End-of-life care facilities, Senior activity centers, Temporary care situations, and Community living residences. This program enables meaningful engagement with clients and their families from day one. PSW students benefit from practical placements that refine their abilities, provide hands-on learning, and build professional confidence for their future careers.
To enter the Personal Support Worker program, you`ll need to have Ontario Secondary School diploma with Grade 12 English (C) ENG4C or mature student status.
A mature student is someone who is 19 years of age or older by the first day of College and has not graduated from high school. If you have graduated from high school but haven`t been to school in a while, you`re an adult learner.
Results must be from within two years of the start of the program and must meet the following minimum requirements:
Application Deadlines:
To be considered on an equal basis for programs beginning in the fall, your application must be received no later than February 1.
After February 1, applications will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis, provided there are still vacancies in the program(s) of your choice.
For programs beginning in January, the equal consideration deadline is October 1.
