The two-year Child and Youth Care diploma is available at Saskatchewan Polytechnic's Saskatoon Campus on Avenue W (450 Avenue W North). Experienced instructors will guide you in expanding the competencies gained through the Child and Youth Care Worker certificate program. The curriculum covers essential topics including:

abnormal psychology
organizational management and community initiatives
dispute mediation and group leadership
multicultural perspectives and family dynamics
personalized evaluation and treatment planning
sexual trauma support
therapeutic approaches and crisis intervention

Students complete five intensive practicum placements, gaining practical experience in designing client programs, running agency initiatives, performing administrative duties, and conducting educational sessions. This immersive training fosters both professional development and personal advancement.

Upon completion, diploma holders qualify for positions such as family advocates, residential care specialists, program administrators, or community liaisons across educational institutions, care facilities, social service organizations, and community programs.

Qualification Requirements

Grade 12 with a combined minimum 65% average in English Language Arts A30 and English Language Arts B30 (combined), and a minimum of 60% in Workplace and Apprenticeship Math 30 or 60% in Foundations of Math 30 or 60% in Pre-Calculus 30

IELTS - Overall minimum score of Band 6.5 with a minimum score of 5.0 in each component.
TOEFL (IBT) - An overall minimum score of 81 on the Internet-based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL IBT), with a minimum score of 19 in each of reading, listening, speaking and writing.
TOEFL (PBT) - Minimum test score of 550 with a minimum TWE of 3.5 and a minimum TSE of 50.
Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE) - A minimum score of 63 with minimum component scores of 50.
