The Sociology Department at Queen's University emphasizes rigorous social analysis and comprehensive research, providing students with demanding projects and top-tier resources to accomplish them. Our professors are all distinguished scholars with national or global recognition, yet they remain accessible, fostering supportive, mentor-like connections with students. We participate in The Surveillance Studies Centre, an international, interdisciplinary research effort examining topics from retail loyalty programs to law enforcement tracking systems. Additionally, we work closely with other university departments such as Development Studies, Gender Studies, Cultural Studies, and Kinesiology and Health Studies. This research network explores global disparities, power dynamics, capitalist systems and social theory, protest movements, racial identity and discrimination, anti-racism initiatives, developmental political economy and cultural sociology, globalization's cultural and economic impacts, post-colonial perspectives, climate change economics, inequality experiences, and social activism.
