For over 125 years, Queen's University's Robert M. Buchan Department of Mining has shaped leaders for the global mining industry. Currently standing as Canada's largest mining department and one of the world's most prominent, Queen's produces approximately 33% of all Canadian mining and mineral processing engineering graduates. Housed in Goodwin Hall, the department features comprehensive lecture spaces, research labs, and study areas. Our campus facilities include specialized laboratories for Rock Mechanics, Mine Environment studies, Computer Planning, and Mineral Processing, along with an Explosive Test Site in nearby Hinchinbrooke Township. These fully equipped spaces support both undergraduate and graduate programs, featuring cutting-edge technology for advanced research across key mining disciplines. This integrated environment allows undergraduates to learn alongside graduate research initiatives, fostering professional excellence while showcasing future industry possibilities.
Student must have a Master's degree in Mining Engineering. Applicants with a Master’s degree in a cognate science may be admitted.
English language requirements
Applicants must have TOEFL Internet-based Test (TOEFL iBT): The minimum overall score is 88, made up of the minimum scores in each component test as follows: Writing test: 24/30; Speaking test: 22/30; Reading test: 22/30; Listening test: 20/30; MELAB: 80 (minimum overall score); IELTS: 7 (minimum score, academic module); PTE Academic: 65 (minimum overall score).
