The program emphasizes industrial and research applications for both underground and surface mining operations, covering resources like coal, oil shales, metals, gold, and industrial minerals, along with mineral processing methods. Additional coursework includes reservoir engineering, offshore drilling, and oil/gas production. Graduates are equipped for careers in cutting-edge mine design, rock mechanics, ground stability, processing technologies, and drilling engineering.
The PhD program offers the deepest research immersion. Applicants typically hold an MASc degree demonstrating outstanding knowledge and research skills. The core requirement is an original research thesis, presented in writing and defended orally. This research is supported by at least four courses and a seminar.
