The Department of Geography and Planning combines the study of locations, communities, ecosystems, and terrains across our planet. This interdisciplinary department uniquely connects the humanities and social sciences (including human geography) with urban planning and physical geography. Our approach examines social and natural systems through the lens of specific locations and regions - highlighting the diverse cultures, governance structures, economies, terrains, and ecosystems worldwide, along with their interconnections. Physical geography focuses on natural phenomena, their interactions, and environmental challenges from both natural and anthropogenic sources. Within social sciences, we investigate societal issues, particularly the unequal allocation of resources and services across various scales. Humanities research examines how people have historically shaped and continue to influence their living spaces (physical, social, and conceptual).
