The Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures is an interdisciplinary academic unit where students can acquire language skills, explore diverse literary and cultural heritages, and engage in Linguistics studies. It provides language instruction in Anishinaabemowin, Arabic, Chinese, German, Hebrew, Inuktitut, Italian, Japanese, Mohawk, Portuguese, and Spanish, along with degree programs in German Studies; Indigenous Studies; Italian; Languages, Literatures and Cultures; Linguistics; Hispanic Studies; Spanish and Latin American Studies; and World Language Studies. Following its 2011 merger, the department introduced LLCU courses to address evolving student demands and broaden elective options. These courses emphasize analytical thinking and cross-cultural examination of global themes, frequently incorporating language learning components. From their inception, these courses have consistently attracted strong enrollment and student enthusiasm at Queen's University. While certain courses run annually, others rotate every two years.
