The Department specializes in exploring the history, theory, and analysis of film, television, and digital media, while providing hands-on training in filmmaking, video production, and digital content creation. Our program investigates cinema and television while tackling broader themes like power structures, ideology, communication methods, artistic expression, marketing, consumer behavior, economic factors, and audience engagement. We analyze how various art forms—including literature, visual arts, music, and architecture—intersect with screen media, and we study cultural institutions' influence on the film industry.
While Film and Media Studies primarily falls under the Arts (rather than Fine Arts), media production remains a cornerstone of our program, serving as a vital tool for developing cultural understanding and proficiency in visual, auditory, and technical storytelling. Our production courses blend artistic practice with rigorous historical and theoretical study, all while maintaining a sharp focus on societal contexts. This comprehensive approach equips students with diverse skills for professional paths both within and beyond the entertainment sector, including television and film careers.
