The Visual Arts Certificate in Studio program is ideal for individuals who already hold a visual arts degree (such as a BFA, MFA, or comparable qualification) in fields like fine arts, media arts, craft, or design, and wish to further develop their artistic skills. This could involve exploring a new studio discipline or deepening expertise in an area they've previously studied briefly. Think of this certificate as supplementing your current education with an additional specialization. Participants can customize their learning experience by selecting from a broad range of studio-based and theoretical credit courses offered within NSCAD's degree programs. Those pursuing the certificate attend the same credit courses and learn from the same instructors as degree-seeking students.
The program offers certificates in either general practice or specialized disciplines, such as ceramics, design, drawing, film, intermedia, jewelry design and metalsmithing, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and textiles.
Students are expected to meet course pre-requisites and maintain a grade average of B or better. They may take up to five years from the initial date of enrollment to complete the certificate. Independent study courses, internships and World Travel courses are not eligible for this program. FNDN 1800 Writing for the Arts is also not eligible as participants are expected to have completed the course or an equivalent course during undergraduate study.
