The Master of Fine Arts in Studio Arts signifies the highest level of academic achievement in visual arts education. Our graduate students not only master technical proficiency in their chosen medium but also cultivate deep insights into the theoretical foundations of their practice, the societal impact of their creative work, and the historical context of their artistic concepts. Located within the Faculty of Fine Arts—one of North America's most prestigious and extensive institutions for advanced fine arts education—this MFA program attracts working artists seeking to enhance their unique artistic vision through rigorous academic exploration. Engage in an intensive studio-based curriculum across our three-year specialized program, offering seven focus areas: Fibers and Material Studies, Intermedia Arts, Painting and Drawing, Photography, Print Media, and Sculpture and Ceramics. You'll have opportunities to examine artistic heritage, innovate with contemporary materials and digital tools, foster cross-disciplinary partnerships, and investigate evolving presentation formats and artistic interventions. This self-guided journey will fortify your professional artistic identity while equipping you for diverse contemporary art careers, including arts education, curation, critical writing, publication, and scholarly investigation.
A Bachelor of Fine Arts or a Bachelor of Arts with Fine Arts or Fine Arts and Art History major, or an approved equivalent, from a recognized institution and with at least a B average in the major area is required. Applicants to the Film Production concentration are expected to have a Bachelor of Fine Arts or Bachelor of Arts degree in cinema or an approved equivalent with at least a B average in the major area. In all cases the students’ undergraduate experience and proficiency must be relevant to the area in which they plan to specialize at the graduate level.
Note: Students with a BFA from Concordia University must wait two (2) years before being considered for admission into the MFA program.
