Northern's two-year Practical Nursing diploma prepares you to launch the healthcare career you've always wanted.

You'll explore diagnostic procedures and understand how education contributes to health promotion. Your communication and leadership abilities will be refined.

From treating minor injuries to addressing serious health issues, including end-of-life care, you'll cultivate a comprehensive nursing perspective, gaining the ability to support patients with diverse needs throughout their lifespan.

Throughout the program, you'll apply your growing expertise in our advanced training facilities. The experience culminates with an eight-week clinical placement that serves as your professional debut as a skilled and compassionate healthcare provider.

This Practical Nursing program spans 2 years (4 semesters) and results in an Ontario college diploma. Northern College's program has earned Category 1 Program Approval from the College of Nurses of Ontario. The curriculum aligns with current diploma standards and national Entry to Practice Competencies, preparing graduates for the Regulatory Exam - Practical Nurse (REx-PN).

The program's foundation rests on five core principles: patient-centered care, health promotion, compassionate practice, nursing excellence, and the importance of education in helping individuals, families, and communities achieve optimal health. These interconnected concepts permeate the entire curriculum. Graduates will be equipped to collaborate with patients and healthcare teams to develop, implement, and assess care plans that enhance wellness, prevent illness, restore health, and provide comfort during challenging health situations.
