The Practical Nursing program spans two years (four semesters) and results in an Ontario college diploma. Northern College's program has earned Category 1 Program Approval from the College of Nurses of Ontario. The curriculum aligns with national Entry to Practice Competencies, preparing graduates for the Regulatory Exam - Practical Nurse (REx-PN).
Northern's Practical Nursing program is built on a philosophical foundation centered around five core principles: patient care, wellness, compassion, nursing practice, and the educational process that empowers individuals, families, and communities to achieve health goals. These interconnected concepts form the program's framework. Graduates will collaborate with patients and healthcare teams (independently or collectively) to develop, execute, and assess nursing interventions that enhance wellbeing, prevent illness, restore health, and provide comfort care.
