Prince Edward Island pioneered baccalaureate education as the mandatory pathway into nursing practice in Canada. This groundbreaking move positioned the province as a national leader in transitioning nursing education to university-level programs. Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program participants must complete identical coursework and clinical hours as their counterparts in the traditional four-year BScN program. What distinguishes the Accelerated BScN is its acceptance of prior academic credits toward degree completion. While admission requires 60 semester hours of previous coursework, these credits contribute to degree requirements without being counted as transfer credits unless earned at UPEI. To graduate with a BScN, accelerated program students must finish 81 semester hours of nursing-focused coursework.
