Northern's Veterinary Assistant certificate program spans one year, providing the essential groundwork for a rewarding career while serving as a stepping stone for further animal healthcare studies.
Students will master medication preparation, client guidance on pet care, and support with laboratory procedures and surgical preparations. Working alongside licensed veterinarians, you'll develop skills in safe animal handling, fundamental care techniques, and proper restraint methods when needed.
The program also trains you in clinic operations - managing phone inquiries, scheduling visits, and handling administrative tasks. These comprehensive skills prepare graduates to become integral team members at various animal care facilities including veterinary clinics, shelters, grooming businesses, municipal organizations, and other animal health service providers.
To be eligible you must possess the equivalent of an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).
