Northern's Mechanical Engineering Technology advanced diploma provides a competitive advantage in the workforce while preparing you for university-level education.
Following two years in the Mechanical Engineering Technician program, your third year focuses on specialized areas including machine design, manufacturing techniques, process control, advanced fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and heat transfer.
You'll gain practical experience in a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility equipped with cutting-edge scanners, printers, milling machines, and lathes. The program teaches you to choose, create, implement, service, program, and diagnose contemporary industrial mechanical systems. Graduates develop the advanced skills needed to conceptualize, organize, and manage comprehensive mechanical engineering initiatives. The initial two years mirror Northern College's Mechanical Engineering Technician Program. Those pursuing careers in mechanical project design and coordination complete an additional year of study, gaining deeper expertise in material strength, manufacturing processes, fluid mechanics, thermal dynamics, process automation, and machine design. Hands-on learning occurs in a modern lab featuring CNC equipment, coordinate measuring machines, 3D scanning technology, and various additive manufacturing systems, where students master the selection, development, implementation, upkeep, programming, and troubleshooting of industrial mechanical systems.
