Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (DMS) are skilled healthcare specialists utilizing ultrasound technology to create detailed images of internal body structures. In the DMS – General and Cardiac program, students master both general and cardiac ultrasound techniques while learning to assess anatomical structures. Our expert-led program combines classroom instruction with practical training, teaching subjects like human anatomy, ultrasound physics, imaging methods, disease recognition, and patient interaction. Through simulated labs, modern equipment, and supervised clinical rotations, students acquire real-world experience. Upon completion, graduates qualify to take Sonography Canada's Core, Generalist, and Cardiac certification exams for professional registration.
Develop specialized expertise and contribute to patient health by starting your journey in medical imaging today. The program prepares you with comprehensive ultrasound skills, including obstetrics/gynecology scans, abdominal imaging, cardiac assessments, and vascular examinations.
Note that clinical placements require significant off-campus participation, potentially including evening and weekend shifts at healthcare facilities.
This intensive program demands approximately 54 weekly hours of combined classroom and independent study. Clinical rotations follow a full-time 40-hour work schedule. The curriculum blends on-campus theory with off-site clinical training, which may involve non-traditional hours. Students gain hands-on experience through diverse clinical environments, with some seminars and labs scheduled during evenings or weekends.
