Medical Laboratory Assistant Technicians play a vital role in healthcare teams. They work directly with patients, conducting ECGs and gathering blood specimens for lab testing. In the lab setting, they support other healthcare professionals by organizing and preparing samples, operating lab instruments, conducting basic supervised tests, and maintaining digital records.
This program features two semesters of classroom and lab instruction, culminating in a 4-week practical placement at affiliated hospitals and private labs. The College coordinates these placements, while students are responsible for associated expenses (tuition, transportation, and living costs).
The curriculum meets the CSMLS (Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science) standards for Medical Laboratory Assistants, preparing graduates to take the national certification examination.
