Nipissing University's Bachelor of Social Work program focuses on equipping students for versatile social work practice grounded in strong ethics, analytical thinking, innovation, research orientation, and advocacy for human rights, diversity, and fairness. Our curriculum emphasizes anti-oppressive methodologies, particularly addressing the needs of varied populations in northern, rural, and isolated settings, including Indigenous and Franco-Ontarian groups. Combining traditional and contemporary teaching methods, we foster an encouraging learning environment that prioritizes constructive engagement, honesty, self-improvement, and artistic exploration. By merging academic instruction with hands-on experience, we cultivate essential skills for client-centered practice with individuals, families, and communities, while advancing systemic strategies to drive meaningful societal transformation and create flourishing communities for all.
The following qualifications are the minimum required for admission consideration to Nipissing University. Applicants are required to achieve a high overall standing in their studies and must include the appropriate program specific prerequisites depending on the degree program to which they have applied. Please note that possession of the minimum admission requirements does not guarantee admission to an applicant's program of interest and/or Nipissing University.
International applicants are not eligible for consideration under Nipissing University’s Mature Student Admission Policy.
Common Credentials: British Patterned Education; CAPE (Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations); French Patterned Education; International Baccalaureate (IB).
Achieve the required proficiency level on one of the following tests of English language proficiency:
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): minimum score of 83 (iBT) with a minimum score of 20 in reading, listening and writing, and a minimum score of 22 in speaking.
International English Language Test Service (IELTS): minimum overall band score of 6.5 with a minimum 6.5 in reading, listening, speaking and writing.
Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic: minimum overall score of 58 with a minimum score of 56 in speaking, writing, reading and listening.
