At Nipissing University, you can specialize in one of four streams: Policing, Corrections, Criminology, or Criminal Justice Studies. Our adaptable curriculum provides a well-rounded mix of academic knowledge and hands-on experience. Through internships, projects, and research initiatives, you'll collaborate with actual criminal justice practitioners.
The Criminology concentration teaches fundamental theories and research methods in the discipline. You'll develop crucial competencies in communication, statistical analysis, and critical thinking. We frequently provide specialized courses such as Women in the Justice System and Juvenile Justice.
Our emphasis on combining academic learning with practical application, along with extensive fieldwork opportunities, ensures our graduates secure employment quickly. Alumni have joined organizations like the Correctional Services Ministry, Ontario Provincial Police, RCMP, and Canadian Anti-Fraud Center in diverse roles. Career paths include research analysts, correctional staff, law enforcement officers, and legal liaisons. Others pursue advanced degrees in law or graduate programs at the Master's and PhD levels.
