The Diagnostic Cytology program holds accreditation from Accreditation Canada. This rigorous quality assurance process guarantees that educational programs adhere to national benchmarks, equipping students with the essential knowledge, abilities, and skills required for competent and safe patient care upon entering the profession.
Within the Diagnostic Cytology program, students develop expertise in identifying and diagnosing precancerous cellular abnormalities, various cancer types, and medically important infections.
Michener provides one of Canada's few Diagnostic Cytology programs. Upon graduation, students qualify to take the national certification exam administered by the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS). Passing this exam enables graduates to pursue employment nationwide, with those intending to practice in Ontario needing additional registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO).
