The Department of Mathematics and Statistics comprises more than 30 faculty members and 80 graduate students. Our distinguished faculty includes 5 University Research Professors (the institution's highest honor) and a Canada Research Chair holder. Several department members have earned Presidential awards for both Research and Teaching excellence. This academic distinction has gained international recognition, with our department ranking #267 globally in Mathematics according to the 2024 U.S. News and World Report University Rankings.
We offer Master of Science degrees in either Mathematics or Statistics, with new admissions exclusively for the Fall semester.
The Mathematics program provides two pathways. The thesis-based option combines graduate coursework with research, typically completed in two years by full-time students. Alternatively, the course-based intensive program spans three semesters (one year) and includes coursework with a final project. The Statistics program requires graduate courses and a thesis, designed for completion within two years for full-time students.
