The Marine Institute at Memorial University provides three Fisheries Science degree programs. The Master of Science in Fisheries Science (Fisheries Science and Technology) is a research-intensive graduate program designed for full-time students. This curriculum prepares graduates for careers in fisheries science, equipping them with the necessary skills to perform publishable research across various fisheries science disciplines.
The Master of Science in Fisheries Science (Stock Assessment) is another research-driven graduate program for full-time students. This specialization targets those pursuing careers in stock assessment, a quantitative fisheries science field. Professionals in this area analyze diverse data sources to develop models that estimate marine biomass and determine sustainable catch limits. While sharing core competencies with other fisheries scientists, stock assessment specialists must additionally master the advanced mathematics and statistics fundamental to this data-intensive discipline.
MSc Programs - These graduate programs combine coursework with thesis research. Students can complete the MSc degree through two years of full-time enrollment.
