The Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science at Memorial University provides thesis-focused graduate studies for both Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees in process engineering. These programs concentrate on research fields involving the processing and sustainable utilization of natural resources to create diverse high-value products.
Research within Memorial's Process Engineering Department specifically explores chemical and biochemical transformations of natural resources (from forestry, food processing, oil and gas, and mining sectors) into industrial chemicals and final products; environmentally friendly extraction of precious metals from low-grade ores; purification processes (including desulfurization and deoxygenation) for solid fuels, crude oil, and natural gas; as well as modeling, simulation, and optimization of complex reaction systems and integrated processes.
Typically completed in two years, the M.Eng. program mandates students to finish four courses, a seminar component, and a thesis project.
Applicants must have completed Bachelor's degree (minimum second class or ‘B’ standing) in an appropriate area of study.
The minimum English proficiency test scores are as follows:
TOEFL: An aggregate score of 80 (92 for graduate programs with higher English proficiency requirements).
IELTS Academic: An aggregate score of 6.5 (7 for graduate programs with higher English proficiency requirements).
Duolingo English Test: An aggregate score of 115 (125 for graduate programs with higher English proficiency requirements).
CAEL - A score between 50 and 60 in each of four bands, with at least 2 band scores of 60.
MET: A score of 59%.
PTE Academic - Minimum scores of 58 in each of reading, writing, listening, and speaking
