Founded in 1983, the Ottawa-Carleton Institute for Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (OCIMAE) brings together the research capabilities of the University of Ottawa's Mechanical Engineering Department and Carleton University's Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department.
Mechanical engineers design and develop diverse systems across multiple fields, including mechanical, energy, aeronautical, marine, thermal, and biomedical applications—ranging from microelectronics to industrial plants, production facilities, and space vehicles. This versatile engineering discipline offers professional prospects in nearly every industry, such as technology, aviation, materials science, production, automotive, energy, marine engineering, healthcare, and advisory services. The curriculum delivers modern education and innovative research possibilities in fundamental mechanical engineering domains like materials science, structural mechanics, engineering design, and thermal-fluid systems.
Hold a bachelor’s degree with a specialization, or a major in mechanical engineering (or equivalent) with a minimum average of 70% (B).
